Picks for Pop – A Father’s Day Bottle Guide

Father’s Day is almost here, and we’ve got the dressiest lineup of bottles around. Here are our best picks for your Barrel Proof Dad, including both the affordable and the indulgent.

1

Eagle Rare, $30

Eagle Rare, $30

Coming from Buffalo Trace’s mashbill #1, the low rye content makes Eagle Rare a nice palatable Bourbon. And at $30, this can quickly become your dad's house brand.

2

Kentucky Owl, $190

Kentucky Owl, $190

The rarest bird of the group, Kentucky Owl will cost you a pretty penny if you find it, especially on the secondary market. The brand is a throwback to the pre-Prohibition Dedman’s label. “The Wise Man’s Bourbon” is perfect for the dad who’s always been there with advice when you need him. Brackish's Dixon Bow Tie, named by the designers after their friend Dixon Dedman, the fifth generation distiller for the brand, pairs perfectly with this bottle.

W.L. Weller, the original wheated Bourbon Whiskey, features an exceptionally smooth taste, substituting wheat for rye grain. While you may have to hunt for this one, the price is nice for a bottle this scarce.

The second expression in Old Fo’s Whiskey Row Series, 1897 is Bottled in Bond, which certifies that the juice inside is at least 100 proof and at least 4 years old. A classic, pre-Prohibition pour for a classic dad.

Another smooth wheated Bourbon for dad, this one makes the list due to it’s unique aging process. This isn’t just any wheater, but is finished in Sherry casks after being aged five years in white oak barrels.
