Pitmasters representing 11 Distilleries will cook off to benefit Operation BBQ Relief
Seventh Generation Jim Beam Master Distiller Fred Noe will host the first “Great Distillery BBQ Cook-off” at the Jim Beam American Stillhouse this Saturday, Sept. 9th, in Clermont, Ky. Attendees will include 11 four-person cook teams, from The Bardstown Bourbon Company, Barton Brands, Heaven Hill Distillery, Independent Stave Company, Jim Beam Distillery, Maker’s Mark Distillery and Wild Turkey Distillery, as well as select bourbon industry Master Distillers and hundreds of barbecue fans.
The grand prize for the best barbecue team is bragging rights – and the opportunity to help Jim Beam donate to Operation BBQ Relief. The organization is comprised of competition BBQ team members that volunteer hot meals to those displaced by or responding to natural disaster, and is currently hard at work in Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
The distillery will open to the public Saturday morning at 9 am and the official cook off will begin shortly thereafter. Guests of all ages are invited to cheer for their favorite barbeque team, enjoy live music, interact with Master Distillers from participating teams, learn from bourbon authority Fred Minnick, create their own Jim Beam barbeque rub, participate in a variety of lawn games and photo booths, and taste delicious barbecue samples crafted with Beam whiskey from onsite BBQ cafe Fred’s Smokehouse while supplies last. Tickets for regularly scheduled distillery tours and specialty cocktails at the Jim Beam Bourbon Bar will be available to guests of legal purchase age throughout the day. Judging for the competition will begin at 2 pm., and an awards ceremony for winners in three categories (ribeye, St. Louis style ribs, and chicken legs) will take place at 4:30.
